pen pals

I now have my first friend in the Philippines! Amanda, a talented graphic designer, and her husband Cree are currently living there, and she's put together a lovely blog will all sorts of excellent photos and information about their journeys. I left a comment (after receiving the blog information from a friend...thank you, Julie!) hoping with all my heart that she would be able to give me a little information, one American to another, about what it will be like to live there.

Wouldn't you know it, Amanda is just as nice and gracious as she seems to be. She quickly sent me the most detailed and informative email just chock full of advice and clever quips. I'm hoping we'll have a chance to meet up - they aren't living in the same area as we will be, but are planning on passing through about the time that I should be arriving. Wouldn't that just be the best thing ever?

p.s. Plus, she likes photos of pretty walls, just like me!

p.p.s. Look how pretty those banana leaf packages Amanda received for fiesta are! Would you have ever thought it?

week's end

This is the last chance to NAME YOUR OWN PRICE on anything in the shop. This coming Saturday (July 3rd) will be the last day to finalize any purchases. Then it's gone for good.

Quick quick...get thee hence!

slow side

Um so...we went to Utah about a month ago, but you're just now getting photos. Somehow I think you're not surprised. I didn't get any photos of my sister-in-law's wedding - it was beautiful and it was also the reason for the entire trip in the first place - and only photos of one of my four niece and nephews...so big boo to me on that one. On the bright side, how freakin' cool is it that my brother-in-law has a rock climbing wall on the side of his house?

home sweet hawaii

Ye olde homestead is looking rather sparse these days. I've managed to sell or donate the majority of our belongings, and now I'm kind of starting to miss them. I have a tendency to get very attached to things, so I guess it's a good practice in self control to let them go occasionally. All the same, I can't wait to finish up and get out of here so I can start putting together a new home.

Oh, and it would be really nice to see my husband again too. Yeah...that would be great.
p.s. There's a silver lining to all this dreadful sorting. This very evening, whilst going through the cupboards, I found a rather large long forgotten bag of m&m's. Oh my, how those have come in handy!

ready set

I've been completely overwhelmed with all the sorting and selling, and seem to be suffering from a greatly diminished ability to focus on anything non-moving related. Luckily, my awesome parents came to spend some time with me last week and were very helpful - meaning they got to have fun with A so that I could focus on the aforementioned drudgery. My favorite memory of the week is my dad sitting on the couch facing the window and calling out to A all the shapes he could see in the clouds.

One other highlight, while sorting through some random scraps shoved into a drawer, was finding a little conversation I had copied down from last year...

C: Hurry...take a bite of your carrot. That's what good little bunnies do.

A: But bad little bunnies don't eat their carrots?

C: That's right.

A: I want to be a bad bunny.

Sheesh.
