utah
We're in Utah now -- a quick visit before heading home to Hawaii. The last time I was here, it looked a bit like this.
Expecting big things this time around.

starry night
A couple nights ago I woke myself up at 3:00 am hoping to see a show of shooting stars. It was a total bust, however, because, while I did make it outside, when I got there the sky was too cloudy to make even one star visible. It's a sad tale, but this image taken by the hubble telescope is pretty darn neat.

self portrait series
Could this possibly have anything to do with the previously mentioned frequency with which we tend to go through cameras?

field trip
Yesterday we went to the National Zoo which I now know is the best zoo forever and ever. Amen. We were there with a couple other families. It was perfect and sunny, and all the little kids like R the best.

good luck out there
Today is Friday the 13th so I found this scary photo from the LIFE archives for you. The caption reads, "Cartoonist Charles Addams experimenting with scary faces for his cartoon 'The Addams Family.'"
Were you scared? Because I was very scared.

almost a week
It's been almost a week since I posted, and there is nothing else to say. But doesn't this photo make you like autumn just a little bit more? It was taken by my good friend Julie and posted on her blog here.
Speaking of weeks, in one of them I'll be leaving Virginia and arriving in Utah where I will eat all the turkey and pie.

a good day for a ride
This is Shenandoah National Park.
It is a lovely place but home to many deer and raccoons who will jump out to frighten you once it gets dark.
