things that went wrong:

• the camera which quit working while you were traveling but began working the moment you arrived home has quit working again just as you have a birthday party you'd like photographed.
• you spent a week sewing hand puppets for a theater that didn't get played with, and cut your fingers on floral wire making tissue paper flowers for a garland that didn't get seen, and spent money on enough fresh flowers to fill ten vases that weren't enjoyed because the rain started up just as you'd finished hanging and draping and arranging but before the party began.
  
• you were forced to fit fifty people into an apartment the size of a bread box.
