back to school
I always liked the first day of school when I was a kid. I remember not being able to sleep the night before or waking up really early because I was so excited. One of my favorite things about going back to school was getting to pick a new outfit for the first day (and taking the obligatory photo in said outfit on the porch before we left home). Were I fortunate enough to be going back to school this year, this is what I would buy:

more sightseeing
Yesterday we set off in search of the Byodo-In Buddhist Temple - a replica of the famous 900 year old Byodo-In located in Japan. This one is situated way off the road with a backdrop of green cliffs, and is surrounded by Japanese gardens and koi ponds. The setting is perfectly serene and beautiful. We spent a while there walking around and sitting by the pond to feed the fish and birds.
After we'd finished up at the temple, we had planned to make our way to the beach, but became sidetracked when we saw signs for the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens. The gardens didn't end up being as exciting as we'd hoped - just a little pathway that led down to a lake. But the cute little fish signs pointing the way more than made up for the lack of botanical-ness (for me anyway).

now offering authentic hawaiian experiences
My lovely cousin Emily has come for a visit (hooray!), and on the way home from the airport we saw a man playing a ukulele while driving. Though I don't necessarily condone this sort of behavior (could be quite risky, no?), I am taking it as a sign that her stay will be a good one.

looking to unload some cash?
If I had all the money in the world, you can bet I'd be rushing out to snap up a print (or a dozen) of one of these paintings from Las Vegas based artist Amy Sol. So pretty.
I would settle for having this girl's hair.

If you're lucky enough to be in London now through September 14th, you should definitely see the exhibition of Cy Twombly's works at the Tate Modern.
