we were meant for each other
Don't you just love it when you fall in love with vintage items being sold online, but put off purchasing them for one reason or another then go on to wonder at your unbelievable luck when you stumble across eerily similar gems at the Salvo? I know I do.

All this and more is available at Little Paper Planes. Feel free to thank me on my birthday.

pumpkin picking
We went pumpkin picking at Aloun Farms in Kapolei over the weekend, and found the most perfectly perfect pumpkins for all our jack-o-lanterning needs. The only thing missing now is a front stoop to set them on.

a list of things
this letter H is brought to you by Sweetshorn Vintage
This weekend I will be doing these things:
1. hiking to Makapu'u Lighthouse
2. going pumpkin picking
3. weighing possible pros and cons of purchasing the letter H you see above (starting with this pro: um...it's fantastic, and this con: the letter H is not significant for me in any way)
4. going swimming
5. taking a media break - no television or internet for me
6. baking something...or more likely asking R to bake something
7. sorting out A's halloween costume
8. taking a walk
9. playing bunco for the first time
a case of mistaken identity
I am in love with these simple and adorable illustrations from the 1956 children's book, The Cat Who Thought He Was a Tiger. I've mentioned this book here before, but thought the illustration was cute enough to garner a dedicated post.

thinking
Sometimes her expression reads older than her two years...when she looks like she has a lot on her mind. I get to thinking she's sorting through things...important things. Then she does something like taking a pen to the furniture, and I remember she is only two. Still, she probably does have a lot on her mind.

thrift swap
Every month my dear friend, JJ, and I send a small package of thrifted goodies to one another. It's always a treat to get her packages in the mail, but this month she's truly outdone herself by sending this fabulous (and enormous) lightweight cardi. I put it on the moment it arrived and proceeded to wear it for a couple days afterward. It's that good.
p.s. I'm not the only one who loves it. Look at this!

a small thing
When A was born she had little feet.
They were soft too.
Little and soft.
Now when I touch her feet I am struck by how old they feel.
They are not so tough like mine,
but they don't feel like baby feet.
If you didn't know her,
you would know she runs barefoot,
you would know she hasn't been running barefoot for long,
but long enough to lose her baby feet
just by touching them.

best wallpaper ever
It looks like it was designed by a frighteningly hip grandma.
Speaking of old age, I just had a conversation with a dear friend of mine in which we discussed my ever increasing desire to know what my hair will look like when I'm older. Will I succumb to the short perm and set as so many women do or will I go for long and delightfully witchy? Or perhaps something in between? It's the top (nay, only) reason why I wish I could see the future.

there's still time
photo and idea via inchmark
A little inspiration for anyone struggling with what to be on Halloween - this brilliant little baby went as a ventriloquist's dummy and has secured my prize for most clever costume ever. See the original post with more fun ideas here.

5 things I did today
1. went for a swim in frightfully* cold water
2. made a myriad of balloon animals
3. walked to the Children's Discovery Center
4. carried a sleeping toddler home from the Children's Discovery Center
5. danced to old Ben Folds Five**
*frightfully as in, "Eep, this is a bit chilly" not as in, "Gah! I'm a crazy person engaging in one of those polar bear club type swimming get togethers in frigid winter waters."
**Their self titled album is one of my favorites and has served dutifully as background noise to the magnificence that is me getting my groove on since borrowing it from and failing to return it to a friend several years ago...like eight or so. This is a testament to both my affinity for the album and my (sometimes) complete disregard for the rules of common decency. Every couple of years I decide that I'll track the poor lender down so I can send him a new copy and promptly forget to do so. Sorry David Mansfield (incase you ever google yourself)...I owe you one.
4 things I like
1. my bikeIt's a hand me down from my parents.
R has a matching one in yellow.
2. this crocheted bibimage via here
This one was made and worn by Danielle at Sexie Time!
It is sewn into the top, but I'd like one with ties so it could be worn like an accessory over anything.
3. couples who look like they were made for each otherimage from New York Look Book

give me a vegemite sandwich

R has moved on to Australia for the next and final leg of his trip. This is the part where I get particularly jealous.
